How to make trap on the KO II

Trap centers on the 808, rolling hats, and sparse hard-hitting drums. Keys mode plays the 808 melodically and punch-in FX handles hat rolls.

130-150 BPM (half-time feel ~70-75) · Half-time kick and snare, fast hat subdivisions, deep 808.

the steps
  1. 1
    Set the fast tempo.
Hold TEMPO around 140 BPM. The snare lands half-time.
  2. 2
Get an 808 you can pitch.
Put an 808 sample on a pad and enable KEYS mode to play it melodically.
  3. 3
    Program sparse hard drums.
Step-sequence kick and a clap or snare on the half-time backbeat in Group A.
  4. 4
    Roll the hats.
Use punch-in FX for stutter and roll bursts on the hats instead of programming every note.
  5. 5
    Tighten the low end.
Use the compressor, and sidechain so the 808 and kick don't clash.
tips
  • Slide the 808 between two notes for a glide.
  • Keep the arrangement sparse so it hits harder.
