KO II

how to make lo-fi on the KO II

Lo-fi is boom-bap softened: mellow chops, gentle swing, rolled-off highs, and lots of space.

70-85 BPM · Relaxed swing, soft transients, slightly detuned.

  1. 1. Set a slow, hazy tempo.
    Hold TEMPO around 75 BPM.
  2. 2. Sample a warm chord loop.
Press SAMPLE to record a mellow keys or guitar loop.
  3. 3. Soften the top end.
Roll off the highs with the filter for a muffled tone.
  4. 4. Lay easy drums.
Finger-drum soft kicks and snares on Group A with live record, keeping velocity gentle.
  5. 5. Add air.
Bring in reverb and a slow delay to widen the space.
tips
  • Push swing higher than for hip-hop for a laid-back feel.
  • Leave gaps so the loop can breathe.
