← KO IIhow to make boom-bap on the KO II
Chop a soul or jazz loop, program hard drums, and keep it raw.
85-92 BPM · Hard swung, punchy kick and snare, vinyl dust welcome.
1. Set a boom-bap tempo.
Hold TEMPO around 90 BPM.
2. Sample a soul or jazz loop.
Press SAMPLE, record the loop from line-in or resample, and pick the source with minus/plus.
3. Chop the loop for the flip.
Use CHOP to slice across the pads, then rearrange the slices into a new melody.
4. Program hard drums.
Put kick, snare, and hat on Group A and step-sequence them so they hit precisely.
5. Make it knock.
Drive the compressor and a little filter to fatten the drums and tame harsh highs.
tips
- Chop on the transients so each slice starts on a hit.
- Keep arrangements simple: loop, drums, maybe one bass note.
