What's the best workflow for beginners?
Start by exploring the four main modes (synth, drum, tape, mixer) to understand the basic signal flow. The OP-1 Field is designed to be intuitive, so hands-on experimentation is the fastest way to learn.
Basic Recording Workflow
- 1.Press synth key and select a sound (keys 1-8)
- 2.Press tape key and select a track (T1-T4)
- 3.Adjust recording level using the orange encoder
- 4.Hold record and play the keyboard
- 5.Press stop when finished
Building Your First Beat
- 1.Press drum key to access the drum sampler
- 2.Record to a different tape track (try T2)
- 3.Press mixer to balance your synth and drum levels
- 4.Use T1 encoders to adjust individual track volumes
Essential Tips
Hold the help key anytime to see what each button does. Press SHIFT + help to access the full built-in user guide.
Start with the pre-loaded sounds before diving into sound design. The color-coded encoders (blue, ochre, gray, orange) control different parameters depending on which T key you're on.
Use SHIFT + T1 in synth mode to browse different synth engines. The Sampler and Pulse engines are great starting points.
Practice the LIFT/DROP workflow: LIFT a sound in synth mode, switch to tape, DROP it onto a track. This lets you layer pre-recorded sounds without playing them live.
