The OP-1 Field is an evolution of the original OP-1 (launched 2011), updated with new hardware and expanded features while keeping the same core workflow.
Key hardware upgrades

- Bluetooth LE for MIDI over wireless
Expanded audio features
- 32-bit stereo tape recording (up from the original's resolution)
- Multiple tapes in memory (up to 8), each with 4 stereo tracks
- Stereo sampler and stereo drum machine
- FM radio receiver and transmitter
- USB-C audio interface, acting as both host and device for audio and MIDI
What stays the same
- The core four-mode workflow: synth, drum, tape, and mixer
- The 4-track tape recorder concept
- The color-coded encoder layout (blue, ochre, gray, orange)
- 7 sequencers and 8 stereo effects
- The same general form factor and keyboard
The manual describes the Field as "the natural continuation" of the original, focused on adapting to current technology while honoring the original design.
