How do I use the Terminal effect?

OP-1 Fieldtutorialguide

The Terminal effect is a bitcrusher and lo-fi processor that degrades your audio signal digitally. It's available in both synth/drum mode (T3) and as a master effect in mixer mode.

Accessing Terminal

Press T3 to add an effect, then Shift + T3 to browse the effect list. Use the blue encoder to scroll to Terminal and press T3 or tap the blue encoder to confirm.

Parameters

The four encoders control:

  • Blue (Rate): Sample rate reduction. Lower values create aliasing and metallic artifacts.
  • Ochre (Bits): Bit depth reduction. Lower values add digital noise and graininess.
  • Gray (Model): Selects different degradation algorithms or processing models.
  • Orange (Mix): Wet/dry balance. Controls how much of the effect is blended with the original signal.

Using Terminal

Press T3 again to toggle the effect on/off while keeping your settings. Combine extreme rate and bit reduction for harsh digital distortion, or use subtle settings with higher mix values for vintage digital warmth. The model parameter offers different flavors of degradation to experiment with.

Terminal works the same way whether used on individual synth/drum sounds or as a master effect in mixer mode, though master effects are applied during output mixdown and not recorded to tape tracks.
