How do I use the mixer and EQ?

OP-1 Fieldtutorialguide

The mixer is where you balance your four tape tracks and shape the overall sound before output. Press mixer to enter mixer mode, then use T1 through T4 to access the four mixer pages.

The four mixer pages

  • T1 mixer: set individual levels and panning for all four tracks using the color-coded encoders. Use shift + T1 through T4 to mute individual tracks.
  • T2 equalizer: adjust the three-band master EQ across low, mid, and high frequencies.
  • T3 master FX: apply a single effect to the entire mix, the same effects available in synth and drum mode.
  • T4 master out: control main output volume, left/right balance, drive amount, and drive release.

Using the EQ

Press T2 while in mixer mode to access the equalizer. The encoders control the three bands and overall EQ amount. You can also toggle individual bands (low, mid, high) on and off, as well as bypass the full EQ.

Drive on the master out

The drive on T4 narrows the difference between loud and quiet parts, making the mix sound louder and more compact. At high levels it introduces distortion. The release encoder controls how quickly the drive responds, and longer release times create a pumping effect. Less is usually more here.

Checking your signal flow

Press shift + mixer at any time to see the sound path screen, which shows the full signal chain from synth or drum through tape tracks, mixer, EQ, FX, and master out. A warning symbol appears if any critical level is set to zero.
