How do I use the sidechain?
EP-40tutorialguide
The sidechain compressor on the EP-40 lets you duck one group's volume based on another group's audio. This creates the classic "pumping" effect where bass or pads duck out of the way of kick drums.
Activating Sidechain
- 1.Press SHIFT + FX to enter output/master compressor mode
- 2.Press PLUS to enable sidechain
- 3.Hold the source group pad (the trigger, typically your kick drum in Group A)
- 4.Hold SHIFT + the destination group pad (what gets ducked, like bass in Group B)
Adjusting Parameters
KnobX controls duck length (how long the volume stays down after the trigger)
KnobY controls duck shape (how quickly the volume recovers)
Pro Tips
The sidechain uses the master compressor, so your master compression settings affect the overall sound. You can have multiple destination groups ducking from one source. Common routing: Group A (drums) triggers sidechain on Group B (bass) and Group C (pads) for a clean, punchy mix where rhythmic elements stay clear.
