The phaser effect on the EP-40 sends your beat through a shifting filter effect, creating a resonant, sweeping sound. Access it through the FX menu while your pattern is playing.

Entering the phaser

Press fx while playing, then use - and + to navigate through the effects until you reach the phaser.

Adjusting phaser parameters

Turn knob x to control modulation, which sets the rate at which the phaser moves the sound around.

Turn knob y to control feedback, which determines how prominent the effect is. At higher feedback settings the phaser becomes more resonant.

Setting the FX level

Move the fader to adjust how much phaser is applied to the current group.

Punch-in phaser

For live performance, hold fx and press the pads to trigger punch-in FX. These are pressure sensitive and can be combined with other punch-in effects for quick variations.

How it works

The phaser shifts the phase of your audio and feeds it back into the original signal, creating resonant peaks that form a shifting comb filter cutting frequencies at irregular intervals. Try turning up the feedback and modulation together for an intense, sweeping outer-space sound.
