How do I use step sequencing?
Step sequencing lets you program beats precisely by placing notes on specific steps rather than recording live. You can add, edit, and nudge individual notes with exact control over timing and velocity.
Basic Step Recording
- 1.Stop playback if it's running
- 2.Press minus or plus to navigate between steps (the display shows bar.beat.step, like 1.1.1)
- 3.Hold record and press a pad to place a note on that step
- 4.Continue pressing minus or plus to move through steps and add more notes
Building a Drum Pattern
For a basic four-on-floor beat with snare backbeats, navigate to step 1.1.1 and hold record while pressing your kick pad. Then go to 1.2.1, 1.3.1, and 1.4.1 to add kicks on each beat. Add snare hits on steps 1.2.1 and 1.4.1 (beats 2 and 4).
Editing Steps
To erase a note, hold erase and press the pad (works while stopped or playing). To nudge notes freely with 96 PPQN precision, hold shift and the pad, then press minus or plus. For quantized nudging that moves by your current step interval, do the same but release shift first.
Adjusting Parameters
While holding shift and a pad, turn KnobX to change note velocity and KnobY to adjust note duration (from 1 tick up to 1 bar).
Timing Settings
Press timing and turn KnobX to change your step interval between 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/8T (triplet), 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32. Turn KnobY to add swing (works with 1/8 and 1/16 intervals). For note repeat, hold timing and press a pad.
