Sampling on the EP-40 is straightforward. Press sample to enter sample mode, then press and hold any pad to start recording directly into it.

Entering sample mode

Press sample to enter sample mode. The pads will blink to show they are ready to record.

Choosing your input source

Press minus or plus to cycle through the available sources:

  • Mic
  • Line in mono
  • Line in stereo
  • Resample mono
  • Resample stereo
  • Line in left mono
  • Line in right mono

Recording

Press and hold a pad to start recording. Release the pad to stop. Press the pad again to audition what you just captured. If you want to retake it, just press sample again and repeat.

Adjusting levels

Turn knob x to set the input level. Turn knob y to set a threshold, so recording only triggers when audio reaches a certain volume.

Hands-free sampling

If you need both hands free, press shift and a pad to have the EP-40 hold the pad for you. Then press play to sample the length of the current pattern automatically.

Exiting sample mode

Press main to exit sample mode and return to the main screen.

Your sample is saved automatically to the next available slot in the sound library.
