# How do I sample a sound on the EP-40?
Press SAMPLE to enter sampling mode. The pads will blink. Hold any pad to start recording, and release to stop. The sound is automatically saved to that pad's slot.
Basic Sampling
- 1.Press SAMPLE (pads blink)
- 2.Hold a pad to record
- 3.Release the pad to stop recording
- 4.Press MAIN to exit sampling mode
Input Sources
Use minus and plus to cycle through input sources:
- Mic
- Line in mono
- Line in stereo
- Resample mono
- Resample stereo
- Line in left mono
- Line in right mono
Adjusting Levels
Turn KnobX to control input level. Turn KnobY to adjust threshold (useful for auto-trimming silence).
Advanced Options
For hands-free sampling, press SHIFT + pad instead of holding it. Then press PLAY to record for the current pattern length. Use minus and plus to adjust the bar count.
To sample to a specific slot number, hold SOUND, type the number on the pads, press ENTER, then press SAMPLE.
To delete a sample, hold ERASE + SOUND.
