How do I delete a pattern?

You cannot delete individual patterns on the EP-40, but you can clear and manage them in several ways.

Clear a Pattern

Hold ERASE and the group pad (A, B, C, or D) until PTN blinks on the display. This erases all notes and automation from that pattern but keeps the pattern number in place.

Clear Multiple Patterns

Hold ERASE and multiple group pads simultaneously to clear patterns across several groups at once.

Pattern Management Tips

Patterns are organized 1-99 within each group. You can work around unused patterns by simply not including them in your song arrangement. When you're in Song Mode, only add the patterns you want to use.

If you want to start fresh, create a new pattern by pressing SHIFT + Group A (or the group you're working in). This duplicates the current pattern, which you can then clear or rebuild from scratch.

For a completely clean slate across an entire scene, hold ERASE + MAIN for 2 seconds. Empty scenes not in the song list are deleted (DEL appears). Scenes in the song list are cleared but remain (CLR appears).
