How do I use the CM-15 for podcasting?
The CM-15 is excellent for podcasting with its studio-grade condenser capsule and flexible connectivity. Position it on the built-in stand or tripod adapter, connect via mini XLR (highest quality) or USB-C (computer interface), and set the pad/gain switch to center position for typical voice levels.
Setup Options
For best audio quality, use the mini XLR output with a phantom power-equipped interface or mixer. Connect with the included mini XLR to XLR cable and enable 48V phantom power on your recording device.
For computer-direct recording, connect via USB-C. The CM-15 functions as a class compliant audio interface at 44.1, 48, 88.2, or 96 kHz sample rates. The unit must be powered on to appear as an interface. You can adjust digital gain ±12 dB in your computer's audio settings if needed.
Positioning
Set up the microphone using the fold-out stand on a stable surface, avoiding vibration. For professional results, use the included tripod adapter (standard 1/4" and 3/8" threads) with a boom arm or mic stand. Slightly angle the microphone away from your mouth for a natural pop filter effect, or use an external pop filter for close voice work.
Gain Settings
Start with the pad/gain switch in the center (0 dB) position for normal speaking voices. If your voice is very quiet or you're sitting farther back, switch to +18 dB. The left position (-18 dB pad) is rarely needed for podcasting unless recording very loud voices or yelling.
