How do I use external MIDI?
The OP-XY has two ways to use external MIDI: through auxiliary track 3 (the dedicated external MIDI track), or by setting any instrument track's engine to "external." Both let you sequence external devices using the step sequencer.
Setting up the connection
Set the multi-out port to MIDI by pressing com and rotating the light gray knob until MIDI is shown. Connect a TRS-to-MIDI DIN cable to the multi-out port and into your device, or connect a USB MIDI device directly via the USB-C port with an adapter.
Using the external MIDI track
- 1.Press auxiliary to open auxiliary mode.
- 2.Press track button 3 to open the external MIDI track.
- 3.Press M1 to access channel, bank and program settings. Rotate the dark gray knob to set the MIDI channel, the mid gray knob to select the bank, and the light gray knob to select a program.
- 4.Press M2 or M3 to access the eight MIDI CCs. Rotate an encoder to set the CC value. Hold shift and rotate to turn on or select the CC message.
Using an instrument track for MIDI
Press instrument, select a track, then hold shift and press M1 to change the engine to "external." This is useful if you want to sequence multiple MIDI devices across different tracks.
Bluetooth MIDI
In the com screen, press down the dark gray encoder to advertise the OP-XY over Bluetooth MIDI, then connect from your other device.
