External MIDI lets you control external gear from the OP-XY. You can sequence synths, drum machines, or other MIDI devices using OP-XY's sequencer and keyboard.

Connecting External MIDI

Set your multi-out port to MIDI mode. Press COM, turn the orange (white) encoder until you see "MIDI", then press the encoder to confirm. Connect a 3.5mm TRS to MIDI cable from the multi-out port to your external device's MIDI input.

Note: You cannot change the multi-out port while a cable is plugged in. Disconnect the cable first if you need to switch modes.

Setting Up Track 3

Press Auxiliary, then select Track 3 (External MIDI). Press M1 to configure your MIDI settings:

  • Dark grey encoder: MIDI channel (1-16)
  • Mid grey encoder: bank select
  • Light grey encoder: program change
  • White encoder: confirm selections

Sequencing External Gear

Once configured, you can play notes on the keyboard or sequence them using the step sequencer just like any instrument track. The OP-XY will send note data, velocity, and timing to your external device on the selected MIDI channel.

Press M2, M3, or M4 to access 8 MIDI CCs per module, plus LFO control for adding modulation to your external synth parameters.
