How do step components work?
OP-XYtutorialguide
Step components are powerful sequencing tools that let you apply variations to individual steps in your sequence, things like ratcheting, randomizing pitch, skipping steps, and more.
Adding a step component
- 1.Make a sequence with at least one note recorded.
- 2.Hold shift and press the step you want to modify. It will start blinking to show it is selected.
- 3.While still holding shift, press a natural key on the keyboard to select a step component. The screen will show the component name.
- 4.Still holding shift, press the accidental keys to set the value for that component. The screen shows exactly what each accidental does.
- 5.Release shift and press play to hear the result.
Removing a step component
Hold shift, select the step again, then press the same natural key used to apply the component. This removes it.
Available step components
- Pulse, hold the step a set number of times before advancing
- Multiply, ratchet a step into multiple faster triggers
- Velocity, force a step to a specific velocity
- Ramp up / ramp down, increment pitch up or down a scale
- Random, randomize pitch within a range
- Portamento, add glide to and from a step
- Bend, apply pitch bend shapes
- Tonality, transpose a step by a fixed interval
- Jump, skip to a chosen step
- Skip trigger, skip step component, skip parameter lock, control how often variations fire
Each step can have any combination of all 14 components applied at once.
