How do step components work?
OP-XYtutorialguide
Step components let you add 14 different types of variations to individual sequencer steps, creating complex patterns without permanent changes to your sequence.
Adding Components
- 1.Hold SHIFT
- 2.Select one or more sequencer steps
- 3.Press a natural key (white keys) to choose the component type
- 4.Press accidental keys (black keys) to set the value or variation
Removing Components
Repeat the same process. Hold SHIFT, select the steps, and press the same component key again.
Available Components
1-3. Rhythmic: Pulse (repeat 1-9 times), Hold (sustain 1-9 steps), Multiply (ratchet/subdivide)
- 1.Velocity: force specific values or randomize 5-7. Melodic: Ramp Up, Ramp Down, Random (within current scale) 8-9. Expression: Portamento (glide), Bend (10 pitch bend patterns)
- 2.Tonality: transpose by intervals, ignore chords 11. Jump: skip to specific steps in the sequence 12-14. Conditional: Skip Parameter Lock, Skip Step Component, Skip Trigger (play every Nth repetition)
Components work alongside parameter locks and regular sequencing. You can combine multiple component types on the same step for complex results. The component affects playback but doesn't permanently alter the underlying note data.
