How do I create a song with scenes?
Scenes let you group patterns from your 8 tracks into distinct sections, which you can then chain into a full song. Here's how to build one from start to finish.
Sequence your patterns
First, press instrument and build patterns on your tracks. Each track can hold up to 9 patterns. Use arrange mode to create new patterns by pressing M1, or copy and modify existing ones with M2 and M3.
Organize patterns into scenes
Press arrange to enter arrange mode. Hold shift and press an accidental key to select a scene. Each accidental key corresponds to a different scene number, giving you up to 99 scenes. When you switch to an empty scene, the OP-XY duplicates your current scene so you can quickly build variations.
Arrange scenes into a song
Once you have several scenes ready, hold shift and press arrange to enter song mode. Then hold shift and press the accidental keys to sequence your scenes in order, like entering a phone number. The OP-XY supports up to 96 scenes in a song arrangement, and you can store up to 9 songs per project.
Useful song mode tools
- Rotate the dark gray encoder to enable or disable song looping
- Hold shift and use M2 and M3 to navigate between scenes and insert or delete them
- Hold shift and press M4 to delete a scene from the song order
- Hold shift and press M1 to clear all scenes from the song order and start fresh
Scenes also remember your mix settings, including track volumes and mutes, so each section of your song can have its own balance.
