You can adjust tempo and groove using the Tempo button in the top left corner of the device, next to the Projects button.

Basic Tempo Control

Press Tempo to access tempo settings. The four encoders control different parameters:

  • Dark grey encoder = BPM
  • Mid grey encoder = groove type
  • Light grey encoder = groove amount
  • White encoder = metronome level

Tap Tempo

Press the Tempo button repeatedly at your desired tempo to set the BPM automatically.

Groove Types

The OP-XY offers 11 groove types that add swing and rhythmic variation to your sequences:

  • shuffle
  • half shuffle
  • danish
  • bombora
  • wobbly
  • gaussian
  • accents
  • island nod
  • disfunk
  • roll over
  • prophetic

Note that groove settings will overwrite any swing value you've set globally. The groove amount encoder controls how much the selected groove type affects your sequence.

MIDI Control

You can also control tempo via MIDI CC80 and groove via MIDI CC81 if you're using external controllers.
