What are the play modes (oneshot, key, legato)?
The three play modes control how samples behave when triggered. You can set them in sound edit mode: press SHIFT + SOUND, use minus/plus to navigate to sound mode settings, then turn KnobX to select the play mode.
Play Mode Types
Oneshot: Monophonic playback that plays the entire sample from start to finish, one at a time. If you trigger the same pad again while it's playing, it stops the first instance and starts fresh. Best for drums and one-shot percussion.
Key: Polyphonic playback that allows multiple instances of the same sample to play simultaneously. Perfect for chords, melodies, and anything you want to layer. When you use KEYS mode to play chords, this is the play mode you need.
Legato: Monophonic like oneshot, but when you change notes while holding a pad, the sample continues from its current playback position instead of restarting. Creates smooth transitions between notes. Useful for bass lines and melodic phrases where you want connected, flowing notes without the sample retriggering.
