What are the play modes (oneshot, key, legato)?
The KO II has three play modes for each sample, set in Sound Edit. Press shift and sound to enter sound edit, then use minus and plus to navigate to the sound page, and turn knobX to choose a mode.
Oneshot
The sample plays in full from start to finish every time you hit the pad. It is monophonic, meaning only one instance plays at a time. Good for drums and hits where you always want the full sample.
Key
The sample plays only while you hold the pad, and stops when you release. It is polyphonic, so you can trigger multiple instances of the same sample at once. This makes it ideal for playing a sample across the pads in keys mode, where overlapping notes sound natural.
Legato
Like oneshot, legato is monophonic and plays one instance at a time. The difference is in how it handles note changes while a note is held. If you press a new pad before releasing the previous one, playback continues from the same position in the sample rather than restarting from the beginning. This creates smooth, connected transitions between notes, useful for bass lines or melodic parts where you want a tied, flowing feel.
