The EP-133 offers two chopping modes to slice samples into playable pieces:

Auto Chop: 1. Enter sound mode and select a sample 2. Press shift + sample to access chop settings 3. Use X knob to set number of slices (2-12) 4. The EP-133 automatically divides the sample evenly 5. Each slice gets assigned to consecutive pads

Live Chop: 1. Enter sound mode and select a sample 2. Press shift + sample 3. Select "live" chop mode 4. Press play to hear the sample 5. Tap pads in real-time to mark chop points as the sample plays 6. Each tap creates a slice assigned to that pad

Tips for better chops:

  • For drum breaks, auto-chop with 8 or 16 slices works well
  • Use live chop for samples with irregular timing
  • After chopping, each pad triggers its slice independently
  • You can then sequence the chops to create new patterns
  • Adjust start/end points per slice in sound edit mode (shift + sound)

What works best:

  • Auto-chop: Even beats, drum loops, rhythmic samples
  • Live chop: Vocals, melodic phrases, samples with variable timing
