How do patterns and scenes work?
Patterns and scenes are the two main building blocks for arranging music on the KO II. Understanding how they relate to each other makes it much easier to structure a full song.
Patterns
Each of the four groups (A, B, C, D) has its own pattern. A pattern holds the recorded notes for the 12 pads in that group. Each group can store up to 99 patterns per project, and each pattern can be up to 99 bars long. You switch between patterns by holding the group button and pressing − or +, or by typing a number on the pads.
Scenes
A scene is a snapshot of which pattern is active in each group at a given moment. Think of it as one section of a song, like a verse or chorus. Each project holds up to 99 scenes. You switch scenes by holding MAIN and pressing − or +, or by holding MAIN and typing a scene number on the pads.
Commit
Commit is how you turn your current pattern arrangement into a scene and move on to the next idea. Press SHIFT and MAIN to commit. This duplicates the current scene so you can build variations without overwriting what you already have.
Song mode
Song mode chains scenes together in order. Hold MAIN and press ENTER to open the song list editor, where you can assign scenes to up to 99 song positions and play them back in sequence automatically.
