Quantize snaps your recorded notes to the nearest grid position for tighter timing:

Setting quantize before recording: 1. Press the timing button (shift + tempo on some firmware versions) 2. Use X knob to select quantize resolution: 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, or OFF 3. Record your pattern — notes will snap to the grid as you play

Quantize values explained:

  • 1/4 — Quarter notes, very loose
  • 1/8 — Eighth notes, moderate
  • 1/16 — Sixteenth notes, tight (most common for drums)
  • 1/32 — Thirty-second notes, very precise
  • OFF — No quantization, records exactly as played

Timing correct (after recording): 1. Select the pattern you want to correct 2. Enter timing mode 3. Adjust the quantize value 4. The existing pattern snaps to the new grid

Swing:

  • Turn the Y knob in timing mode to add swing
  • Swing pushes off-beat notes slightly late for groove
  • Values from 50 (straight) to 75 (heavy shuffle)

Pro tip: Record with quantize OFF to capture your natural feel, then apply light quantize (1/16) if needed. Too much quantization sounds robotic.
