# How do I chop a sample on the EP-1320?
The EP-1320 has a dedicated chop mode that can automatically slice samples by detecting beats, or let you manually create breaks by tapping along. Both methods distribute the slices across the 12 paeds in a selected group.
Entering Chop Mode
Press altero + demus to enter sample mode, then press demus again to enter chop mode (CHOPpeth).
Auto-Chop
Auto-chop uses beat tracking to divide your sample automatically.
- 1.Select which group (A, B, C, or D) will receive the sliced sample.
- 2.Use minus and plus to adjust the number of slices. The algorithm detects beats and divides accordingly.
- 3.The slices are automatically distributed across the 12 paeds in your selected group.
Live Chop
Live chop lets you manually place slice points by tapping as the sample plays.
- 1.Hold a paed while the sample plays through.
- 2.The duration you hold the paed determines where the break/slice occurs.
- 3.Each paed press creates a new slice point in real-time.
Refining Slices
After chopping, you can fine-tune each slice.
- 1.Select a paed containing a slice.
- 2.Turn KnobX to adjust the start point of that slice.
- 3.Turn KnobY to adjust the end point (length) of the slice.
- 4.Hold altero while turning either knob for finer, more precise control.
