How do I use the sequencer?
The OP-1 has five sequencer types, each with a different personality. You access them by pressing shift + sequencer to open the browser, turning the blue encoder to select one, then pressing sequencer again to confirm.
Endless
A quick way to record a melody. Hold shift and press keys on the musical keyboard to record notes one at a time. Release shift then press any key to play back. The pitch of playback shifts depending on which key you press, with C playing the original pitch.
Pattern
A classic 16-step grid, great for drums. Hold shift and press keys to place notes. Use the white encoder to set the sequence length and the green encoder to add swing.
Tombola
A randomized sequencer. Press keys to drop notes into a spinning drum, then use the green encoder to set gravity, orange for bounciness, and blue for spin speed. Great for unpredictable, organic sequences.
Finger
Lets you combine two patterns together. Each white key holds a pattern. Hold a key to play it, then press a second key to layer, replace, or fill in depending on the mode set with shift + orange encoder.
Sketch
A freeform sequencer where you draw shapes using the blue and green encoders. The shape controls pitch over time. Shake the OP-1 to erase and start over.
General tips
- Both synth and drum modes have separate sequencer memory
- Turn the orange encoder to HOLD to keep a sequence looping hands-free
- Hold shift and turn the orange encoder to change playback direction
