How do I use the D-Box drum engine?
OP-1tutorialguide
The D-Box is a dual oscillator drum synthesizer engine in Drum mode, designed for creating synthetic percussion sounds from scratch rather than using samples.
Accessing D-Box
Press Drum key, then SHIFT + T1 to browse engines. Turn the blue encoder until you find D-Box and press T1 to confirm.
Basic Parameters
The four encoders control different aspects of the sound:
- 1.Blue encoder: Pitch - sets the fundamental frequency of your drum sound
- 2.Green encoder: Waveform - selects the oscillator shape
- 3.White encoder: Envelope - controls how the sound decays over time
- 4.Orange encoder: Cross modulation - determines how the two oscillators interact with each other
Advanced Control
Hold SHIFT while turning the Orange encoder to adjust filter cutoff. This shapes the brightness and tone of your drum sound.
Creating Sounds
Start with the blue encoder to find your base pitch, adjust the green encoder to change the character, set decay time with white, and add complexity with orange cross modulation. The filter cutoff (SHIFT + Orange) helps tame harsh frequencies or add darkness to the sound.
