The OP-1 lets you set tempo manually or by tapping, and offers several sync modes for working with external gear.

Setting tempo

Turn the tempo key to enter the tempo screen. From there you have two options:

  1. 1.Turn the blue encoder to dial in a specific BPM.
  2. 2.Tap the tempo key repeatedly until you reach your desired tempo.

Hold shift while turning the blue encoder for fine tempo adjustments.

Metronome

Turn the orange encoder to set the metronome pitch. Press play to start it. Turn the orange encoder all the way down to turn it off.

Sync modes

Turn the green encoder to cycle through the available modes:

  • Free: tape and tempo are independent, no sync sent or received
  • Beat match: OP-1 acts as master clock, sends MIDI sync over USB, and links tempo to tape speed
  • Sync: OP-1 follows incoming external MIDI clock over USB, tempo is not linked to tape speed
  • PO sync: sends a click track on the left audio output for syncing Pocket Operators directly

Tempo nudge in sync mode

While synced to external MIDI clock, press the left or right arrow keys to nudge the beat by one MIDI clock per press, helping you align things by hand.
