How do I use the bass synth?

The EP-40 has a built-in bass synthesizer for creating basslines:
Accessing the bass synth: 1. The bass synth sounds are typically in Group B 2. Select Group B and play the pads 3. Each pad triggers a bass note at different pitches
Playing bass:
- Keys mode — Play the bass chromatically across pads
- Pattern recording — Sequence bass notes in your patterns
- Live playing — Jam basslines over your drums
Bass synth parameters:
- X knob — Filter cutoff (brightness)
- Y knob — Filter resonance or envelope
- Sound edit — Access more detailed synthesis parameters
Sound editing the bass: 1. Enter sound mode, select bass pad 2. Press shift + sound for edit mode 3. Adjust parameters: - Wave type (sine, saw, square) - Filter settings - Envelope (attack, decay, sustain, release) - Pitch/detune
Tips for dub/reggae bass:
- Keep it simple — root notes and fifths
- Deep sub frequencies work best
- Slight filter movement adds life
- Don't compete with kick drum frequencies
- Use compression to keep bass even
Bassline patterns:
- Reggae: Play on the off-beats (& of each beat)
- Dub: Sparse, let notes breathe
- Dancehall: More rhythmic, syncopated patterns
