How does live mode work?

Live mode on the EP-40 is designed for real-time performance:

Entering live mode: 1. Press the live button (or shift + specific button) 2. The display indicates live mode is active 3. Your workflow changes for performance focus

Live mode features:

  • Instant scene switching — Jump between sections smoothly
  • Mute groups — Press and hold group buttons to mute/unmute
  • Effect throws — Quick access to performance effects
  • Fader control — Real-time parameter tweaking

Performance workflow: 1. Build multiple scenes (intro, verse, chorus, drop) 2. Enter live mode 3. Use group buttons to mute/unmute layers 4. Switch scenes on the fly 5. Add siren and effects for flavor

Group muting:

  • Hold A — Mute/unmute drums
  • Hold B — Mute/unmute bass
  • Hold C — Mute/unmute melodics
  • Hold D — Mute/unmute samples/loops

Fader in live mode:

  • Assigned to crossfader, filter sweep, or effect parameter
  • Move fader for real-time sound manipulation
  • Great for filter drops and transitions

Tips:

  • Practice transitions before performing
  • Use mutes to build tension
  • Bring in/out elements gradually
  • Dub style: Heavy use of mutes, effects, and siren
