How to factory reset the EP-133 K.O. II

A factory reset formats the K.O. II back to a blank state, erasing every sample and pattern, and it also clears file-system errors. One warning first: factory sounds cannot be recovered once deleted, so back up anything you want to keep with the EP Sample Tool before you start.

Back up first

There is no way to restore the factory sounds after a reset. Connect over USB-C and use the EP Sample Tool (teenage.engineering/apps/ep-sample-tool) to back up any samples you want to keep.

Erase the drive

  1. 1

Power the device off with the orange switch on the top right.

  2. 2

    Hold SHIFT and ERASE together.

  3. 3

Keep holding both and slide the power switch on.

  4. 4

"FMT" shows for about 10 seconds while the drive formats.

  5. 5

The device boots up with all content removed.

After the reset

The K.O. II starts up clean, with no sounds or patterns. Reload sounds with the EP Sample Tool, or start fresh by recording your own samples. If you reset to clear an error, update to the latest firmware afterward.

questions

Will this delete the factory sounds?

Yes, and they cannot be recovered. Back up anything you need first with the EP Sample Tool.

Does this fix error codes?

It clears file-system errors (E.10, E.11, E.12, E.05). Hardware errors (E.01, E.02, E.03) need a repair.

What's the button combo again?

Hold SHIFT + ERASE while sliding the power switch on.

Will a factory reset fix a frozen or glitching device?

It can, if the cause is a corrupted file system. Back up first, format with SHIFT + ERASE, then update to the latest firmware.

Is there a way to reset without losing my samples?

No. A factory reset formats the drive, so back up anything you want to keep with the EP Sample Tool first.
