How to factory reset the EP-40 (Riddim)
A full factory reset on the EP-40 Riddim (its "erase drive") wipes every sample, project, and factory sound. Back up anything you want to keep with the EP Sample Tool first, because once it is erased there is no way to get it back.
Back up first
Connect over USB-C and back up your projects and sounds with the EP Sample Tool (teenage.engineering/apps/ep-sample-tool). Once erased, content cannot be recovered.
Erase the drive
- 1
Power off the EP-40 completely.
- 2
Hold SHIFT and ERASE together while powering it back on.
- 3
"FMT" shows for about 10 seconds.
- 4
The device starts up with all content removed.
After the reset
Your EP-40 boots as if new, with no samples or patterns. Use the EP Sample Tool to restore any backed-up sounds and projects.
questions
Does this erase the factory sounds too?
Yes. The erase-drive reset removes factory sounds as well as your own, so back up first.
What's the button combo?
Hold SHIFT + ERASE while powering the unit on.
Can I recover my projects after?
Only if you backed them up with the EP Sample Tool beforehand.
Does the EP-40 reset use the same combo as the K.O. II?
Yes. Hold SHIFT + ERASE while powering on. The EP-40 calls it 'erase drive'.
Will this fix file-system error codes?
Yes. Formatting clears file-system errors. Update to the latest firmware afterward to help prevent them returning.
