How to update the OP-1 Field firmware

Updating the OP-1 Field firmware means booting into te boot and connecting the device to your computer over USB-C. Once the OP-1 Field mounts as a disk, you copy the new firmware file onto it and let the update finish. Download the file before you start so everything is ready.

Before you start

Get the firmware file ready before you touch the device. Download the latest firmware from teenage.engineering/downloads and save it somewhere easy to find on your computer.

Do not rename or unzip the firmware file unless the download instructions tell you to.

Enter te boot

te boot is the OP-1 Field bootloader. You reach it by holding COM as the device powers on.

    Turn the OP-1 Field off.

    Disconnect it from USB.

  3. 3

    Hold COM while switching the power on. The device enters te boot.

Install the update

With the device in te boot, mount it as a disk and copy the firmware across.

    Connect the OP-1 Field to your computer using the USB-C cable.

    Press 1 on the keyboard. The device appears as a mass storage disk.

    Copy the new firmware file onto the disk, then safely eject it.

    Wait for the update to finish and follow any on-screen instructions.

Always eject the disk safely before disconnecting so the firmware file is written fully.

After updating

Once the OP-1 Field restarts on the new firmware, check that everything reflects the latest version.

  • Hold SHIFT + help to open the built-in user guide, which reflects your current firmware version
  • Browse new effects or features that the update may have added
  • Re-check your synth and drum patches load as expected
