Resample & Sound-Design on the KO II

Bounce a part back in to stack effects and build new textures from your own sounds.

  1. Set up the part. On GROUP A, get a loop or chord playing exactly the way you want it. Dial in your FX and levels now, because everything you hear at this moment is what gets baked into the resample. (Your part loops back cleanly and sounds finished. If a knob move or effect is still wandering, settle it first, since resampling captures whatever is happening live, including mistakes.)
  2. Choose resample as the source. Press SAMPLE to enter the sampler (all the buttons light up and blink). Then use MINUS / PLUS to scroll the input source past the mic and line in until you land on resample, which feeds the K.O. II's own output back into itself. (The blinking pads tell you you are in sample mode, and the screen lists resample as the source. If it still shows mic or line in, tap **PLUS** again until resample appears.)
  3. Bounce it to a pad. Pick a destination with a GROUP A to GROUP D pad, then press SHIFT + a pad to start hands-free sampling so both your hands are free to play. Let the part run through one full loop, then press SAMPLE again to stop the recording. (The destination pad stops blinking and stays lit. Tap it once to audition: you should hear the whole part, effects and all, playing back from that single pad. If it cuts off early, you stopped too soon, so redo it and let a full loop pass before pressing **SAMPLE**.)
  4. Design the texture. With the bounced pad selected, open FX and choose the filter. Turn KNOB X to sweep the cutoff (left cuts highs for a darker tone, right opens it back up) and turn KNOB Y for resonance to add that emphasized, vocal sweep. (You should hear the resampled part change character as you move **KNOB X**, going from full and bright to muffled and warm. If pushing **KNOB Y** makes it whistle or self-oscillate, that is resonance doing its job, so back it off slightly until it sits right.)
